California Lieutenant Governor Backs Jesse Gabriel for Assembly Following Primary Victory
ENCINO, CA -- Continuing his momentum since his decisive victory in the Special Election Primary for Assembly District 45, today Constitutional Rights Attorney Jesse Gabriel received the endorsement of California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom.
In a statement released following the announced endorsement, Lt. Governor Newsom declared:
"Jesse Gabriel has stood up to the Trump Administration time and time again to protect the values that California holds dear. He has sued for protections for our DREAMers, advanced public health policies, and advocated for environmental protection causes. Jesse Gabriel will be a strong fighter on behalf of working families and neighborhoods throughout the Valley. I'm proud to endorse Jesse Gabriel for State Assembly."
Last Tuesday, Gabriel finished first in a crowded field of eight candidates in the special election primary contest for the 45th Assembly District, winning 32% of the vote and securing more than double the votes of his nearest Democratic competitor. Gabriel now faces 19-year old Republican candidate Justin Clark in the June 5th general special election.
Gabriel’s campaign also announced that he had secured the endorsement of the California Democratic Party (CDP), and begins the general election campaign with more than $150,000 cash-on-hand.
Jesse Gabriel is a Los Angeles County Commissioner and Constitutional Rights Attorney who has represented clients before the United States Supreme Court. He is currently suing the Trump Administration in two landmark lawsuits which seek to protect undocumented children known as Dreamers. Through his legal work and legislative advocacy, Jesse has assisted Holocaust survivors, victims of domestic abuse, and communities facing the threat of hate-motivated violence. Jesse has also helped to resolve complex business disputes through his work with a major law firm. Prior to beginning his law practice, Jesse worked to advance the Democratic Party agenda in the United States Senate, where he served as a senior advisor to former United States Senator Evan Bayh.
A committed environmentalist and longtime community activist, Jesse also serves on the board of directors of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, and as a Commissioner on the Los Angeles County Commission on Local Government Services.
Jesse lives in Encino with his wife Rachel Rosner, an affordable housing attorney, and their sons Ethan and Joshua. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and UC Berkeley.
