Three Prominent LA Leaders Unite Behind Jesse Gabriel in Assembly District 45 Bid
ENCINO, CA -- Continuing his unrelenting momentum following Tuesday’s commanding Special Election Primary win, today Constitutional Rights Attorney Jesse Gabriel was endorsed by a series of high-profile Los Angeles leaders, including Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez, LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, and LA City Controller Ron Galperin.
Following the announced endorsements, Pérez, Kuehl and Galperin released the following statements.
"Valley voters across California's 45th Assembly District sent a resounding message that they want Jesse Gabriel as their next representative in the state legislature. I'm proud to join them by announcing my strong endorsement of Constitutional Rights Attorney and Democrat Jesse Gabriel. His dynamic background, from serving as an attorney who sued the Trump Administration on behalf of Dreamers to his legal work assisting victims of domestic abuse and Holocaust survivors, illustrates that Jesse is a fearless fighter for our most vulnerable communities. I know he'll continue this tradition in Sacramento."
-Assembly Speaker Emeritus and UC Regent John A. Pérez
“Jesse Gabriel will be a strong and effective representative for the San Fernando Valley. Valley residents can count on Jesse to be a leader on protecting the environment, reducing traffic and congestion, addressing homelessness, and expanding access to higher education. I am proud to endorse Jesse Gabriel for State Assembly.”
-LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl
“Jesse Gabriel will be an extremely effective advocate for the San Fernando Valley who will represent the district with integrity, thoughtfulness and compassion. He has dedicated his career to helping others and consistently demonstrated that he is willing to fight for what is right. I know that he is dedicated to fiscal responsibility and transparency for Valley residents, and he has my enthusiastic support.”
-LA City Controller Ron Galperin
On Tuesday, Gabriel finished first in a crowded filed of eight candidates in the special election primary contest for the 45th Assembly District, winning 32% of the vote and securing more than double the votes of his nearest Democratic competitor. Gabriel now faces 19-year old Republican candidate Justin Clark in the June 5th general special election.
Gabriel’s campaign also announced that he had secured the endorsement of the California Democratic Party (CDP), and begins the general election campaign with approximately $150,000 cash-on-hand.
Jesse Gabriel is a Los Angeles County Commissioner and Constitutional Rights Attorney who has represented clients before the United States Supreme Court. He is currently suing the Trump Administration in two landmark lawsuits which seek to protect undocumented children known as Dreamers. Through his legal work and legislative advocacy, Jesse has assisted Holocaust survivors, victims of domestic abuse, and communities facing the threat of hate-motivated violence. Jesse has also helped to resolve complex business disputes through his work with a major law firm. Prior to beginning his law practice, Jesse worked to advance the Democratic Party agenda in the United States Senate, where he served as a senior advisor to former United States Senator Evan Bayh.
A committed environmentalist and longtime community activist, Jesse also serves on the board of directors of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, and as a Commissioner on the Los Angeles County Commission on Local Government Services.
Jesse lives in Encino with his wife Rachel Rosner, an affordable housing attorney, and their sons Ethan and Joshua. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and UC Berkeley.
